NATURE IS KEY
The natural warmth of wood is revered in both Japanese and Danish design. Work it into your home with key furniture, ideally keeping surface treatments to a minimum. Wood panelled walls make for great features. Then introduce natural accents with statement houseplants, preferably in terracotta pots.

NATURAL COLOURS
Here is where the Japandi camp divides. Those tipping toward the Scandi expression will likely opt for a white or neutral based palette with rich accents. Others will choose large swathes of rich colour on walls and other elements. In both cases, work with natural tones like blues, greens, plums and browns. Black is also a favourite in Japandi styled rooms.

ACCESSORISE WITH CARE
The philosophies behind both nations’ design languages call for accessories that prioritise functionality over decoration. Think unglazed ceramic tableware, vases and a few books. Lastly, combine Scandi’s homely comforts with Japanese imperfection through contrasting cushions and throws.
